At the time of this writing, I am working through chapter five on single row functions. Thus far I have found the book to be informative and helpful. There are aspects of Oracle and SQL I am not familiar and while the author does explain some things like ampersand substitution in great detail, he fails to clarify others like the clauses PARTITION BY and OVER. The author's examples are helpful, but it would be better if he had used the HR schema or provided a copy of the Cruise Ship schema for users to load. Given I'm already using the HR schema for other exercises, I modified the examples in the book to fit the HR schema. So far, it works.
This book isnt comprehensive - you cant rely on it as a sole study resource for taking the exam (I wouldn't recommend supplementing with Matthew Morris' material to fill this gap, though). I was hoping an Oracle published book would be of higher quality, some concepts seemed to be written rushed or to shorten chapters.
The text book is pretty accurate however the testing software practice questions are obviously incorrect in a few places.it is good to study with for the most part but be aware of the practice test is not accurate and will probably mess you up if you don't use multiple sources to prepare for the 1z0-071 exam.

Good book
It’s a long read but it does a great job of explaining things. In addition to this book, i took 2,1z0-071 courses from Udemy but I feel this book did a better job of preping me for the test. Must read if you want your OCA.
The end of the first chapter review includes the question: "Is this the best database book for....? A) Yes B) Definitely... (you get the picture). Did not find it at all funny and I returned the book immediately. You can tell just reading the 'Look inside' preview the author likes hearing himself talk.The book is terribly overpriced, for one, considering what you can learn from it which is not much. Compare this table of contents alone to (a great book) Microsoft SQL Server 2016: A Beginner's Guide, Sixth Edition by Dusan Petkovic to see just what a terrible value it truly is.Moreover, the exam is absolutely despicable. It asks a bunch metadata type questions and does not gauge ability to program SQL at all. An inordinate amount of questions focused on what is subquery and what they can do with no SQL in the question at all.This book and the exam left me in disgust. I'll stick to SQL Server and Postgres.
